We’ve been talking about the iPad a lot this year, and looking for more info. So much that Google has named the iconic tablet one of its most searched subjects of the year.
Want to know what 2010 was all about? Check Google’s Zeitgeist report of the year’s hottest search terms that gives a glimpse into what was on our minds over the last 12 months. Coming in first was Russian social networking site Chatroulette, which allows strangers from all over the world to connect via webcam-based chats. Close behind was Apple’s game-changing iPad, which has sold more than seven million units since its release in April.
A pair of pop artists followed—teen dream Justin Beiber and Trinidadian hip hop recording artist Nicki Minaj. Coming in fifth was free online game site Friv, followed by Myxer, a Florida-based site where users can upload and download media for cell phones. Another pop star, Katy Perry, came in seventh, while microblogging service Twitter took spot number eight. In ninth place was another game site, GameZer, which offers multiplayer online gaming. Coming in tenth was the best-known social networking site Facebook.
Conspicuously missing from the list were some of the major events of the year, like the BP oil spill, the war in Afghanistan and the Tea Party movement. Maybe people are tired of hearing about some of them. Obviously, there’s major interest in pop stars and gaming, neither of which is a major surprise.
So what did we want to do in 2010? Judging from Google’s list, we wanted to meet other people and play games against them on our iPads while listening to disposable pop music.
